7 Simple Surprises to Show Your Family You Care

7things

It can be too easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle and forget to take time out to celebrate our families. I like to keep my love for my family fresh on their minds by planning simple surprises throughout the year. These surprises don’t take a lot of planning or money, but they become the memories that my family will have forever, read on to check them out.

  1. Secret Surprises
There is just something so special about a secret; it can make a surprise that much better. I like to keep track of the upcoming events for our local area. Then, I plan a secret surprise around whatever is happening.
  2. Dinner Date Surprise
I plan my son’s appointments on the night that my husband works late. I do this for two reasons - first, I wouldn’t want to waste a night that the entire family has together at the doctor’s office. Second, I always follow an appointment up with a surprise dinner date. My son and I have a couple of restaurants that we only go to eat at together – never with anyone else.
  3. Put a Twist on the Ordinary
It’s amazing a twist on an otherwise ordinary situation can make it extraordinary. If on a particular night, homework time is a major struggle, I’ll tell my son to grab his books and a blanket and we head outside to the grass. Simply getting outside and in a different environment immediately makes homework seen like no big deal.
  4. It’s Adventure Time!
Sometimes it’s just fun to see what adventures lay on the road ahead. I like to take a bike ride or paddle boarding trip with in an area we haven’t been to before. We’ve come upon a secret beaches and parks, rode past a blue crab and paddled with manatees this way.
  5. Surprise them with Silliness
Life is too short to constantly take everything seriously. It’s important to take time to be silly with your family. Whether you have an impromptu dance party after dinner, or arrange breakfast into a silly face, it’s important to make life fun.
  6. Friday Night Dinner Party
It is fun to surprise my family and pick up all of the supplies for homemade pizza night. When the gooey pizzas come out of the oven, we like to sit at the dining room table to eat and play a board game.
  7. It’s Just You and Me
Regardless of how many children you have – spending one-on-one time with your each of them is important. It doesn’t matter what activity you choose, part of the surprise is learning something new together; the other part is how working together on a project strengthens your bond.

How do you celebrate your family every day of the year?
