Apple Pie: Holiday Cocktail Recipe

As featured in Holiday 2023 issue of The Applegatarian.

"As far as I know, Apple Pie is a true midwestern drink and a staple in the fall.

There are dive bars all over Wisconsin, and they all serve $1 homemade Apple Pie shots. It's extremely easy to make, and my friends and I would make 5 to 6 gallons of it at a time and then tuck it away in a cabinet for a couple of months.

The longer it sits the smoother it gets. It's a very easy drink, but it will creep up on you! It's great at a room temperature, better chilled, and delicious warm.

When it gets cold at football games, we still tailgate. We will heat up apple cider and add some Apple Pie. It's a soothing drink that warms the soul on the way down."

Ingredients

  • 1 gallon apple juice
  • 1 gallon apple cider
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 6 to 8 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 (1.75L) bottle 190-proof Everclear grain alcohol
  • Mason Jars

Instructions

  1. In a large heavy pot, stir together the apple juice, apple cider, sugars and cinnamon sticks until well combined. Cover and bring to a rolling boil. Remove from the heat, uncover, and let cool to room temperature.
  2. Once cool, stir in the Everclear. Grab your mason jars and 2 cinnamon sticks per jar. Fill the mason jars with the mixture and screw the lids on tight. For best results, let sit in a cool dark place for 3-6 months before serving.
